Revolution

Revolution, a producer of food service bags, films and other products was founded as Pak-Sher in 1973, and was family owned until being sold to sold to Revolution Plastic Recycling in 2019. Rebranded under Revolution’s banner, the Kilgore, TX facility continues operating with the same local workforce and leadership team.

While you may not know the name “Pak-Sher”, “Command Packaging” or “Revolution”, you have absolutely benefited from their innovation in the plastic take-out bag industry. Pak-Sher invented the “waveform” and “soft loop” style carryout bags, with a client base including Chick-fil-A, Whataburger, Dunkin, and American Airlines. The Deliver-Safe bag is their newest creation, which allows restaurants to completely seal their food inside the delivery bag. Restaurants and order-from-home customers feel safe knowing that there’s no way to tamper with their food while it is in transit.

Revolution’s acquisition of Pak-Sher in 2019 has allowed the Kilgore facility to grow exponentially in a short time. By replacing outdated manufacturing equipment with state-of-the-art machines, some production lines at Revolution have more than doubled their output. Today, Revolution produces over 50,000 pounds of finished product daily. However, growth and expansion are nothing new for Revolution, with previous expansions to their Kilgore facility in 1980, 1986, 1990, and 2001. Pictured below are the original Pak-Sher facility, built in 1973 (left), and the current Revolution facility as it sits today (right).

Historically, Pak-Sher has been a corporate citizen in high standing in Kilgore. Setting a trend of high levels of commercial success in Kilgore, the city awarded one of its first tax abatements to Pak-Sher more than 30 years ago. KEDC continues to support Revolution’s growth and success with local economic development programs like the Performance Incentive Grant.

In addition to increased productivity, Revolution’s focus on sustainability and recycling has helped bring cutting edge production methods to the Kilgore facility.

“THERE’S MORE AND MORE INTEREST IN POST-CONSUMER RESIN (PCR) AND POST-INDUSTRIAL RESIN (PIR). WE’RE ABLE TO USE BOTH OF THOSE HERE,” SAID TOMMY VAUGHAN, PLANT MANAGER AT REVOLUTION. “WITH REVOLUTION TAKING US UNDER THEIR WING, THEY’RE PRODUCING THE PCR. THEY TAKE SCRAP AND PUT IT THROUGH A VERY THOROUGH WASH SYSTEM, AND THEY PELLETIZE IT. ONE CUSTOMER WE’RE WORKING WITH IS USING 20% PCR IN THEIR PRODUCT. OUR GOAL IS TO BE AT 13% PCR OVERALL THIS YEAR. WE’LL CONTINUE TO GO UP FROM THERE. THE RECYCLED PART OF THIS IS GOING TO GET BIGGER AND BIGGER. AND THAT’S WHAT REVOLUTION IS ALL ABOUT; SUSTAINABILITY.”
